US

An 84-year-old man died Monday morning after he was hit by a vehicle that later fled the scene, according to the Anaheim Police Department.

It happened around 5:30 a.m. in the area of Anaheim Boulevard and Cerritos Avenue.

Police and paramedics responded to the scene and found the octogenarian suffering from “severe traumatic injury.” He was then pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, officials said.

Police determined that the man was a pedestrian and was struck by an unknown vehicle which fled the scene without stopping to provide help as required by California state law.

Anaheim Boulevard was completely shut down for several hours between Cerritos Avenue and the 5 Freeway while police investigated.

The pedestrian’s name has not yet been released pending notification of his next of kin. Police appear to have a description of a suspect vehicle but have chosen not to release a description at this time.

Anyone with information about this deadly hit-and-run is urged to contact the Anaheim Police Department at 714-765-1900, or Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-847-6227.
