CHICAGO — Felony charges have been filed against two Chicago residents accused of carjacking a man at gunpoint on the city’s South Side on Friday night.
Chicago police say 18-year-old Randle Archie, a South Chicago resident, and 18-year-old Mercedes Jones, a South Shore resident, have each been charged with one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm.
Archie faces an additional felony charge of aggravated unlawful use of a loaded weapon without a FOID card.
According to police, the charges stem from the duo’s role in an alleged carjacking that unfolded just after 8 p.m. in the 8100 block of South Escanaba Avenue in South Chicago.
Officers said the two allegedly held a 37-year-old man at gunpoint before stealing his car.
Both Archie and Jones were located by police within 20 minutes of the carjacking and taken into custody.
The two appeared in court for a detention hearing on Sunday.
