Man injured in shooting during meetup for online marketplace sale in North Lawndale

CHICAGO — A man was hospitalized on Saturday afternoon after a shooting during a meetup for an online marketplace sale on the West Side.

Chicago police said the armed robbery attempt unfolded just after 3 p.m. in the 3400 block of West Douglas Boulevard in North Lawndale.

According to police, the victim, a 23-year-old man, had organized to meet a seller from an online marketplace to purchase an item. But when the victim arrived at the designated meetup spot, he was confronted by three individuals who pulled out a gun and opened fire.

Officers said the victim suffered gunshot wounds to his left and shoulder and was later transported to the hospital, where he was listed in fair condition.

An investigation into the shooting is now underway and authorities said no arrests have been made.

Authorities did not disclose what online marketplace was used to conduct the sale.
