Semi crash closes U.S. 6 west of Golden in both directions

US

U.S. 6 is closed in both directions in Clear Creek Canyon between Colo. 93 and Colo. 119 after a crash involving a semi, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The long stretch of highway runs west from Golden and is a connection to Colorado gambling towns of Black Hawk and Central City. CDOT first announced the closure on social media at 1:27 p.m.

Traffic on the east end of the closure is being diverted onto Colo. 93. On the west end, drivers are being routed onto Colo. 119, CDOT spokeswoman Tamara Rollison said.

That closure is having impacts elsewhere on the highway system, particularly on Interstate 70 at the beginning of what promises to be a busy holiday weekend.

“That’s putting a little more pressure on westbound I-70 traffic, especially on Labor Day weekend,” Rollison said.

Rollinson did not have an estimated timeline for when the highway will reopen. Crews are focusing on investigating the wreck and cleaning it up, she said.

The Colorado State Patrol, Golden Fire Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are on the scene, Rollison said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
