CHICAGO — The Archdiocese of Chicago is offering natural burial as an option starting at a cemetery in Palatine.
The natural burials through the archdiocese will take place at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, located at 1185 W. Algonquin Rd, in a new section called the Meadows of St. Kateri.
The Meadows of St. Kateri is named for St. Kateri Tekakwitha, the first Native American to be recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church.
“The peaceful setting will feature winding walking trails, native plants and a mixture of meadow and forest terrain,” according to the archdiocese.
According to a report last year, 60% would be interested in exploring “green” funeral options because of their potential environmental benefits and cost savings.
