Man, 21, shot multiple times on South Side, police say, dies after being dropped off at hospital

CHICAGO — A 21-year-old man died from multiple gunshot wounds overnight after being dropped off at University of Chicago hospital.

According to Chicago police, the man was shot in 4000 block of South Lake Park Avenue, in the Oakland neighborhood on the city’s South Side. Police say officers responding to a call around 12:45 a.m. Thursday in that area discovered damage to vehicles from gunfire.

Officers then responded to University of Chicago hospital, where the victim had been dropped off. Police say he suffered gunshot wounds to the upper chest and right shoulder and was pronounced dead a short time later.

According to police, it’s not clear yet if witnesses to the incident refused to cooperate with authorities or not. Nobody is in custody, and Area One detectives are investigating.
