Crash in Downey decapitates ‘Bob’ statue in front of Bob’s Big Boy

A “Bob” statue outside a Bob’s Big Boy in Downey lost his head after a violent crash early Wednesday morning. 

According to witnesses, this specific “Bob” statue, which sits in front of the Bob’s Big Boy restaurant located on Firestone Boulevard near Old River School Road, was damaged around 2 a.m. Wednesday after a vehicle sheared a fire hydrant, sending the hydrant flying towards the statue. 

Video from the scene obtained by KTLA shows water spraying into the air outside the fast-food burger joint as police worked to clear the scene. 

Another angle shows the missing head of the statue with the flooded street and wrecked vehicle in the background. 

The female driver was hospitalized in unknown condition, although it was said that she was trapped in the vehicle for an extended period of time, which led first responders to use the jaws of life to free her.

What caused the crash was not immediately known. 

KTLA has reached out to Downey police for more information but they were unable to immediately provide any.
