Teen fatally struck by Queens subway train after fight on platform, police say

An 18-year-old man was struck and killed by a subway train in Queens after a fight with another teen sent him running through the track tunnel, police said.

NYPD officials said the teen got into a physical fight with a 19-year-old man at the Jackson Heights – Roosevelt Avenue / 74th Street – Broadway subway station at around 11 a.m. Monday.

After brawling on the northbound F line platform, police said the younger teen attempted to run away through the tunnel between Roosevelt and Elmhurst Avenues.

He then reportedly slipped and fell onto the tracks, and was hit by the oncoming train. Paramedics found him unconscious and unresponsive, and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The 19-year-old man had minor injuries from being struck with a bottle, police said, and first responders took him to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst to be treated.

Police said Tuesday they had not made any arrests in the case, and could not specify what the dispute was about. They did not immediately release the name of the teen who died, as they worked to notify his family.

Last October, 18-year-old Jessica Ajtzac Guarcas was fatally struck by an E train at the same station as she commuted to her job at an empanada restaurant. Surveillance video viewed by her family months later showed her falling onto the tracks after possibly fainting.

This is a developing story based on information from the NYPD and may be updated.
