Red Lobster closures hit the Bronx and Queensbury

US

Embattled seafood eatery Red Lobster continues closing restaurants including one in the Bronx and another in upstate Queensbury.

The company announced its latest round of cuts in a court filing last week that included 23 locations marked for closure, according to USA Today.

Among the spots shutting down is the Bronx branch at 925 Hunts Point Ave. Red Lobster will not pick up the lease on that and other stores at the end of the week.

The closure in the Bronx will leave only two New York City locations: one in Times Square and the other in East New York in Brooklyn.

Red Lobster, which filed for Chapter 11 in May, said in its voluntary bankruptcy plan that it aimed to “simplify the business through a reduction in locations, and pursue a sale of substantially all of its assets as a going concern.”

The franchise has since closed more than 100 restaurants.

Public Enemy rapper Flavor Flav has tried to help Red Lobster by supporting the eatery on social media, recording an ad and endorsing the limited edition “Flavor Flav’s Faves” meal, including Maine lobster tail and bacon mac & cheese.

The 64-year-old performer posted a photo of himself ordering “the whole menu” from a Red Lobster in June and singled out one particular item of interest.

“Ya boy meant it when I said I was gonna do anything and everything to help @redlobster and save the cheddar bay biscuit,” Flavor Flav wrote.

New York locations in Poughkeepsie, Buffalo, Rochester, Lakewood, Amherst and Kingston turned out the lights in recent months.

Virginia, Florida and Illinois were hardest hit by Red Lobster’s latest store closings. Those states each lost three restaurants. Outside of New York the tri-state area wasn’t impacted this time around.
