Monitoring the Bears’ moves before roster cuts are due at 3 p.m. Tuesday:
Aug. 27
The Bears are cutting tackle Jake Curhan, a source confirmed. Curhan, who started nine games over three seasons for the Seahawks, could return on the practice squad if he’s not claimed on waivers.
Quarterback Brett Rypien is being released, per NFL Network. He had a stellar preseason, finishing with a 131.4 passer rating, but the NFLPA’s rejection of a proposed change to the emergency quarterback rule means the Bears would have had to keep him on the active roster if they wanted him to be available as the third quarterback on Sundays.
Linebacker Carl Jones, an undrafted free agent from UCLA, will be cut, a source said, but is a candidate to return on the practice squad.
Aviante Collins, a veteran tackle who appeared in eight games over four seasons — including one last year with the Bears — is being released, a source said.

The Bears got their roster down to 78 players Monday by waiving nine: OL Ja’Tyre Carter, OL Jerome Carvin, DL Michael Dwumfour, WR Peter LeBlanc, DL Jaylon Hutchings, WR John Jackson III, S Quindell Johnson, LB Javin White, LB Paul Moala.
Aug. 24
The Bears traded a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Browns in exchange for defensive tackle Chris Williams and Cleveland’s seventh-rounder. Williams played for coach Matt Eberflus in Indianapolis. To make room, the Bears waived Keith Randolph Jr.
The Bears put running back Ian Wheeler (knee), safety Douglas Coleman III (neck) and receiver Nsimba Webster (groin) on injured reserve. Coleman, who had been released from the hospital a day earlier after getting hurt against the Chiefs, was later waived with the injury designation.
Tight end Tommy Sweeney was released.
Aug. 23
Needing an edge rusher to pair with Montez Sweat, the Bears sent a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Seahawks for edge rusher Darrell Taylor, who had 21 1/2 sacks over the past three seasons. Taylor said he was excited to be moving to a 4-3 scheme. To create a roster spot, the Bears released defensive end Khalid Kareem.
They also waived wide receiver Freddie Swain.
Sweat is looking to shed the “toxic, heavy toll” that losing took on him while playing for the Commanders. He has big dreams for himself and the Bears this season.
In a twist, Allen left the West to search for gold. Even stranger, he’ll try to find it with the Bears.
