West Dundee has hired Shawn Green as its next Chief of Police.

Schaumburg Deputy Police Chief Shawn Green will become West Dundee’s next police chief.

The village of West Dundee announced the hiring in a news release on Monday. Green, who will be sworn in as chief at the Oct. 7 village board meeting, replaces Anthony Gorski, who retired as chief in early July.

“I am incredibly blessed by the opportunity to join such a great community as the next police chief for the Village of West Dundee,” Green said in the news release. “I am eager to help guide the department into the future, building on the excellent foundation and reputation already in place to enhance the safety and quality of life for all of our residents and visitors.”

Green began his career in Schaumburg 26 years ago and has served as deputy chief since 2022.

He has advanced training from the FBI National Academy, the school of police staff and command at Northwestern University, and the National Emergency Management Advanced Academy. He also has a master’s degree in administrative leadership.

West Dundee received about 60 applications for the opening and conducted final interviews with four candidates — two from within and two from outside the department — earlier this month.

Green, whose annual salary as chief will be $155,000, will lead a department of 19 sworn officers.

“With almost half of the West Dundee police department officers currently having two or less years of police experience, Shawn brings depth and years of experience to help mentor and coach the young officers,” West Dundee Village Manager Joe Cavallaro said in the news release.

West Dundee Village President Chris Nelson said Green will assist in “mapping a solid future” for the police department.
