The Seaport is getting a dog mayor. Yes, you read that right.

In March 2025, the Boston neighborhood will welcome its first dog mayor at an event revealing his or her official oil portrait at the Seaport’s dog park, Sea Green. The event will also feature the unveiling of a “stately looking doghouse,” Barksworth Manor, for the chosen dog to enjoy while serving in public office.

“Dogs are a beloved part of the Seaport Community,” the Seaport’s voting website reads. “To celebrate our favorite four-legged friends, Seaport will appoint an official neighborhood dog mayor in 2024.”

Polls are open through Aug. 30, and voters can vote as many times as they would like.

The InDOGuration will also include on-leash activities for dogs and their owners, according to Claire Kilcullen, associate director, culture & experience, Seaport at WS Development.

Over 175 dogs owned by Seaport residents are in the running and more than 15,000 votes have already been cast, Kilcullen said.

“Our beloved four-legged friends in Seaport have blown us away with their clever campaigns for Bark the Vote,” Kilcullen said.

Among them is Winifred who promises to “make treats FREE and walks MANDATORY!!!”

The top five dogs will move on to the “Pooch Primaries” from Oct. 15-30, and the dog mayor will be announced Nov. 1.
