Investigation continues into deadly, wrong-way crash involving Precinct 6 constable deputy Rigo Vivar who was fired

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Authorities are working to learn more about a deadly crash involving a Harris County Precinct 6 deputy over the weekend.

That deputy constable, identified as Rigo Vivar, has since been fired.

Investigators said at about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Vivar was on his way to work driving his personal vehicle on the wrong side of Canal Street when he slammed into another driver.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and Vivar was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

An ABC13 crew was at the crash scene Monday, where glass and pieces of a vehicle were still jammed into the side of a nearby building.

Witnesses told ABC13 that the deputy had been driving on the wrong side of the road. Officials say the deputy, who is under investigation, has been terminated on Sunday.

Family members identified the driver as 28-year-old Ricardo Resendez.

Neighbors told ABC13 they rushed in to help.

“I pulled off the windshield, and me and another gentleman pulled off the window – the driver’s side window to try and check his vitals,” Antonio Briones said.

No charges have been filed against Vivar.

The Houston Police Department said its investigation into the deadly crash is ongoing.
