CHICAGO — Felony charges have been filed against a Chicago man accused of stealing from a Cook County State’s Attorney’s office last month.

According to Cook County deputies, 44-year-old Jordan Jose Ocampo has been charged with felony theft and felony burglary.

The charges were handed down after an investigation into the disappearance of laptops and other items from the Criminal Court Administration Building in the 2600 block of South California Avenue in late July.

44-year-old Jordan Jose Ocampo has been charged with felony theft and felony burglary in connection with a theft from a Cook County State’s Attorney’s office in July.

Deputies said on Tuesday, July 23, Sheriff’s Police Detectives were notified about a theft that occurred at the building after employees noticed three laptops and other items were missing from the 12th-floor office.

Following a review of security footage from the night before, authorities spotted an individual, who was later identified as Ocampo, allegedly leaving the building with the missing items that evening.

Authorities eventually met with Ocampo, who had been in custody at the Cook County Jail since Aug. 14 on unrelated aggravated robbery, kidnapping, and attempted criminal sexual assault charges, on Tuesday and said he allegedly admitted that he had been in the building on the night of July 22, and had taken the laptops and other items before leaving.

Ocampo made his initial court appearance on Sunday.
