1 dead, 1 injured in Austin shooting

CHICAGO – A man died and another man was injured after a shooting Friday evening in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood.

Chicago police said the shooting happened just before 5 p.m. Friday in the 700 block of North Leamington Avenue.

According to investigators, officers received a “gunshot detection technology alert” and went to the area to investigate. When they arrived, they found a 49-year-old man who had been shot in the head and a 21-year-old man who had been shot in the leg.

Police said both victims were taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital where the 49-year-old man died from his injuries. At last check, the 21-year-old man is in fair condition.

No arrests have been made and Area Four Detectives are investigating.
