A troubled Detriot doctor is accused of touching himself in front of an elderly woman who refused his sexual advances after he drove her home from a hair appointment.
Stephen Bruce Mason, 54, befriended the 76-year-old victim online and gave her a ride home from her appointment on Aug. 1 when the gross behavior occurred, the Macomb County prosecutor said.
The woman invited the doctor inside her Sterling Heights home after he dropped her off but the creep took advantage of her offer and made sexual advances toward the septuagenarian, which she quickly rejected, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Following her rejections, Mason allegedly masturbated in front of the septuagenarian.
He was later arrested and charged with assault and aggravated indecent exposure.
“Our legal system does not discriminate based on profession or social standing. Whether you are a doctor or any other member of the community, the law applies equally to everyone,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a statement.
“We are dedicated to pursuing justice impartially, ensuring that all individuals are held accountable for their actions.”
Mason has had several prior run-ins with the law — including previous accusations of sexual misconduct — in multiple states, according to a Thursday news report.
His medical license in his home state of Indiana was revoked after a 2005 investigation by the state medical board found that he had sexual contact with a patient, solicited his employees for sex and touched them inappropriately and regularly drank alcohol while seeing patients at his family medical practice, ClickOnDetriot reported.
He was also accused of selling prescriptions for controlled substances, according to the local outlet.
Two years later, he moved to Wisconsin and practiced medicine under a limited medical license he was granted with requirements that he undergo a sexual addiction treatment program as well as regular drug and alcohol screenings.
Then in 2011, he moved to Michigan where he was employed by Lake MI Mobile Doctors USA making home visits, the local station reported.
But he and two other doctors became the subject of an FBI and Michigan Department of Health investigation connected to a $1.7 million fraud scheme. The docs had been billing Medicare for home visits that they never made or weren’t necessary.
Mason pleaded guilty to felony conspiracy to commit health care fraud and was sentenced in 2017 to 18 months in prison and a $50,000 fine from Michigan’s state medical board, according to ClickOnDetriot.
After his release from prison, Mason created a new medical business called Expert Opinion, LLC. with a Facebook page advertising health consultations from “Dr. Steven” with no last name, the outlet reported.
