'It kills your spirit': Burglars target South Side convenience store a 3rd time in 3 weeks

US

CHICAGO — A South Side convenience store has suffered its third break-in in as many weeks.

Burglars broke into the Express Dood Market in the 1800 block of E. 87th Street on Wednesday just before 5 a.m.

The unidentified group crashed a pickup truck through the security gate and door, grabbed a recently delivered ATM machine and then drove off.

The stolen ATM had just been installed a day prior, replacing one that crooks attempted to steal on Friday, Aug. 9.

Express Food Market co-owner Mike Abuhamdh, told WGN News they were just wrapping up repairs for that break-in and one that occurred on Aug. 1

“This is the worst one we’ve had,” he said. “The second one was bad but this one is real bad. They took out the whole front end of the store. It kills your spirit. It doesn’t leave much. How can you come back from two hits, back-to-back, you know? It’s really hard.”

No one is in custody.
