Tim Walz speaking after 9 p.m., here’s how to watch

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is scheduled to take the stage after 9 p.m. Wednesday night at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago to celebrate accepting his party’s nomination for vice president.

The keynote address on the penultimate night of the DNC offers the second-term governor a chance to introduce himself more fully to voters after Vice President Kamala Harris named him as her running mate about two weeks ago.

A Nebraska native and former teacher, football coach and congressman, Walz was chosen over a list of other better-known Democrats, including de facto DNC host Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker.

“The through line … (of the speech) is going to be that Gov. Walz has always been somebody who’s fought for the vulnerable, who’s fought for those in need, who’s taken on special interest for the benefit of the people that he represents,” Harris-Walz campaign spokesman Michael Tyler told reporters Wednesday morning. “And so the American people will have an opportunity to see that in the prime time tonight, many for the very first time, we’re excited about it.”

Chicago Tribune’s Olivia Stevens contributed.
