Tufts police issue warning after people struck by BB gun pellets

Tufts police issued a warning to the university community on Tuesday cautioning that there have been multiple reports of BB guns being shot at pedestrians in the surrounding area. 

In a statement, the Tufts University Police Department said the incidents took place in and around Medford, Somerville, and Brookline.

“Several individuals were approached while they were walking by a dark-colored motor vehicle, possibly an older model Jeep, and struck with an unknown object that came from the area of the vehicle and was described as a BB pellet,” police said.

The department said it is investigating the incidents alongside other law enforcement partners. As the investigation continues, police urged the people to be alert to their surroundings when walking, stick to well-lit and populated areas, or walk with another person if possible. 

“If you think someone is following you, try to move into an area where other people are present like a store or restaurant,” police said. “Don’t be afraid to call for help.”
