Woman Shocked to Find Iconic Dress in Thrift Store: ‘No Freaking Way’

US

A woman has become the envy of movie fans after she made the ultimate discovery at her local thrift store: the iconic dress from the 2003 romcom How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

TikTok user @eatsherveggies called it a “lifelong dream” when she entered her small town’s store and discovered the silky yellow gown, made famous by Kate Hudson in the classic flick in which she starred opposite Matthew McConaughey.

One of the most famous scenes in the movie shows Hudson wearing the slinky, floor-length gown while singing Carly Simon’s track “You’re So Vain.”

So what better song to use in the background for the TikTok user’s thrift store find?

The woman shows the jaw-dropping dress hanging on a rail in a clip shared to her account on July 23, which has almost 100,000 likes and 1.2 million views.

And, as she puts it: “When you go to your small town’s thrift store and find ONE OF THE MOST ICONIC DRESSES OF ALL TIME?!”

Writing “no freaking way” across the video, she went on to show the dress in all its glory, even trying it on to find out it fit perfectly, and called it a “lifelong dream fulfilled.”

And in a caption, tagging actress Hudson and referencing her character in the movie, she wrote: “Watching Andie step out in this dress for the first time as a kid permanently altered my identity.”

TikTok users were just as awed, with one gasping in the comments: “The way I recognized it immediately!”

The woman couldn’t believe it when she found the “dream” dress in the thrift store. She shared the experience to TikTok.

“All us girls wanted to look like that in that dress,” another said, with a commenter writing that it would “be forever one of my dream dresses.”

“I’m screaming with you,” a TikToker said, adding: “That dress looks amazing on you!”

Replying to one curious commenter, the woman confirmed the brand is Faviana but said, “Alas, it’s just a replica.”

She joked that she was confident that the actual dress from the movie was “held by the Smithsonian along with our nation’s other most precious artifacts.”

In the movie, Hudson plays journalist Andie Anderson, while love interest McConaughey plays advertising executive Benjamin Barry. While Andie is writing a feature on how to make a man dump you in 10 days, Ben is proving he can get a woman to fall in love with him in 10 days.

Hudson was nominated for an MTV Movie Award for best female performance for her role.

According to Statista, the global market value was estimated to be $197 billion in 2023 and is projected to rise by another $100 billion by 2026.
