L train subway service was suspended for an hour and a half between Brooklyn and Manhattan during rush hour on Monday morning due to a loss of third-rail power in the tunnel between the two boroughs, according to the MTA.
As of 9:41 a.m., service was restored with delays in both directions, and L trains were making their regular stops between the Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues and Eighth Avenue stations. It was not immediately clear what caused the initial power loss, though a spokesperson for the MTA said it doesn’t appear to have been weather-related.
The transit agency first reported the issues shortly after 8 a.m. on Monday. They mucked up commutes for people trying to cross between Manhattan and Brooklyn at the beginning of the work week, even as MTA officials recommended the A, C, J and M trains and nearby buses as alternatives.
Maintenance workers examined both the south- and northbound tracks and deemed them safe for service at 9:18 a.m. and 9:37 a.m., respectively, the spokesperson said.
