Triple stabbing in Sunset Park leaves man dead, 2 others injured, police say

US

A man was stabbed to death and two others were wounded on a street in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, on Sunday morning, police said.

Police said first responders discovered Melvin Gomez Nunez, 42, with multiple stab wounds around 7:20 a.m., in front of a building on the corner of 50th Street and Third Avenue. They also found a 30-year-old man with several stab wounds.

Paramedics took both men to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where Gomez Nunez was pronounced dead and the 30-year-old man was listed in stable condition.

Police said officials later realized that a 38-year-old man who had walked into the Brooklyn Hospital Center with multiple stab wounds was a victim in the same incident. He was also reported as in stable condition.

The NYPD did not make any immediate arrests. Officials said the suspect was a man who sped northbound on Third Avenue in a black Toyota Camry. Police said they recovered a knife at the scene and detectives were still investigating a possible motive for the incident.

Crime in the 72nd Precinct, which includes Sunset Park and Windsor Terrace, is up in most major categories compared to last year, according to police data.

Through Aug. 11, two murders were reported in the precinct so far this year. That was level with the same period last year, when two murders were also reported.

This is a developing story based on information from the NYPD and may be updated.
