Shooting in Spring Hill on Florida’s west coast prompts lockdown

US

A shooting at an apartment complex or mall — or both — in Spring Hill, Fla., prompted police to put the area on lockdown Sunday night.

“Deputies are conducting an investigation into a shooting that occurred at one or both of these locations,” the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement, referring to the Mariner Cay Apartments and Mariner Commons. “The public is asked to remain indoors and to stay away from the area as the scene remains active. Additional information will be provided as is made available by investigators at the scene.”

The situation was still unfolding Sunday night amid unconfirmed reports of at least one death.

Spring Hill is about 50 miles north of Tampa.
