Anti-Cruelty Society hosts 10th annual Clear The Shelters event

CHICAGO – The Anti-Cruelty Society in downtown Chicago hosted its 10th-annual Clear The Shelters event Saturday.

Through the event, the shelter hopes to help more than 175 animals find their forever home.

“Today is one of the most exciting days for Anti-Cruelty. It feels like Christmas morning,” said Darlene Duggan, president of Anti-Cruelty. “It’s Clear the Shelters, which is an adoption fee waive.”

At the event, WGN caught up with Ken and Uriel Fausel, who were looking to add not only a new addition to their family, but also a companion to another rescue they already have at home.

“It’s really important for us to rescue dogs like this who need a home, so I’m really thankful for them for doing an event like this,” Uriel said.

Over in the cat department, WGN spoke with Shanta Washington and Scruff, who’s just four months old.

“I was going to come down weeks ago and then I just so happened to get the notification across my phone seeing that there were going to be pets from other states to help rescue other cats, and I got to thinking, I’m like, ‘You know what? This is the time for me to get down here,'” Washington explained.

Even though the weather was a bit rough, raining cats and dogs at times, it was a good day for those looking for the perfect pet.

“We have a very generous donor who’s covered the fees for all animals…despite the rain and humidity, very excited for the public,” Duggan said. “We’re hoping to get as many animals into their forever homes as we can, but our website is always up to date, available in real time.”
