More than 2,000 customers were without power early Saturday evening following a rain and wind storm that hurled through Shasta County Saturday afternoon.
The power outage was not planned, according to the Pacific Gas & Electric outage map. The power was out for 2,275 customers in the county at 6:12 p.m., according to the agency’s website.
The majority of the power interruptions — 2,102 — were reported in unincorporated Shasta County, said PG&E. Another 122 outages were reported in Anderson, while 37 were in Shasta Lake and 14 were in Redding.
According to the National Weather Service, there was a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday, mainly before 7 p.m. Winds of 5 to 10 mph were expected to be become light southwest after midnight, with possible wind gusts as high 22 mph.
New precipitation was expected to amount to less than one tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms, the agency said. Steady rain was continuing to fall in Redding as of 6:30 p.m.
