A massive swarm of bees killed a horse and injured multiple other horses and people in Southern California last week, according to authorities.
In a post to Instagram, Cal Fire Riverside County said that firefighters were dispatched to the 9500 block of 52nd Street in Jurupa Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 9 on reports of a large swarm of bees.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw the swarm attacking two people and four horses.
Firefighters quickly extracted the people from the swarm. One of them was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, while the other was treated for moderate injuries.
Using a mix of foam and water, firefighters managed to separate the bees from the horses.
A veterinarian came to the scene to evaluate the horses and pronounced one dead at the scene. The others were treated for their injuries.
No additional details were made available.
