Man, 18, arrested in hit-and-run that killed pedestrian in Tarzana

Police announced the arrest of an 18-year-old man Friday in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian in his 70s dead in the Tarzana neighborhood of Los Angeles overnight.

The crash was reported around 11:20 p.m. Thursday in the 19500 block of Ventura Boulevard.

Investigators at the scene said the victim was crossing a street outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Ventura.

The victim, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of family, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle involved in the incident, described as a dark gray sedan, did not stop and continued driving eastbound on Ventura, police said.

Authorities found the vehicle not far from the crash site and identified Reseda resident Nathon Jaimes as the suspected driver.

Jaimes was detained at his residence and later arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing death, the Police Department stated in a news release.

It was unclear why the victim was in the area but witnesses said he performs at a nearby restaurant every Thursday night. Police have not confirmed any details about the victim.
