Perdue Foods LLC is recalling numerous chicken products on Friday due to the possibility the product may be contaminated with metal.
In a news release posted on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) website, over 167,000 pounds of “frozen, ready-to-eat chicken breast nugget and tender products” are being recalled due to foreign material, “specifically metal,” potentially contaminating the meat.
FSIS posted photos of the labels on the impacted goods, which were produced on March 23. According to the agency, there have been no known reports of people experiencing “adverse reactions” related to the recall.

The recalled products have an establishment number of “P-33944” that is visible on the back of the packaging, the release notes. The impacted products were available for customers to purchase online as well as distributed across the country to retailers, the FSIS says.
The problem with the product was first discovered after consumers complained of metal wire “embedded” in the chicken, the FSIS said, adding that the agency is “concerned” that the recalled chicken could be in customers’ freezers. It advises people not to eat the chicken, throw it away or return the product to the original place of purchase.
Consumers are also asked to contact Perdue Consumer Care at 1-866-866-3703 with questions about the recall.
Numerous food products this month have been recalled, including cinnamon, a chocolate bar and guacamole products. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the reasons for the recalls include listeria contamination fears and undeclared allergens.
In a news release posted on the FDA website August 2, Metro Produce Distributors Inc. announced a recall of the Lunds & Byerlys fresh guacamole products amid fears the product could be potentially contaminated with “Listeria monocytogenes.”
Listeria can cause fatal infections in young children, the FDA warns. Potential symptoms include headaches, stiffness and nausea. Listeria may also cause miscarriages in pregnant women and stillbirths, according to the federal agency.
The FDA lists the impacted guacamole products on its website, saying that they were distributed in Minnesota, in the “Twin Cities area and St. Cloud.” The impacted product was sold in “clear plastic containers,” the release adds, while noting that there were no reported illnesses as of August 2.
