Jack Russell, the former lead singer of the rock band Great White, passed away at age 63, according to KTLA sister station WPRI.
The announcement of his passing was shared on social media Thursday evening.
“Jack is loved and remembered for his sense of humor, exceptional zest for life, and unshakeable contribution to rock and roll where his legacy will forever thrive,” the announcement reads.
His cause of death has not been made public.
Russell retired from touring in July after being diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia and Multiple System Atrophy.
Russell rose to fame back in the 1980s when he formed the band Great White alongside Mark Kendall. Even after the original Great White broke up in 2001, Russell continued touring and eventually changed the band’s name to “Jack Russell’s Great White.”
The last time Russell and his band performed in New England was in 2015. It was also his first performance in New England since the Station nightclub fire, which killed 100 people and injured more than 200 others.
