Aldi Recalls Nearly 30,000 Coffee Makers Over Burn Fears

US

A total of more than 28,000 Aldi-branded Ambiano Single Serve Coffee Makers have been recalled due to burn hazards.

In a fast-track recall update, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said that hot water can spurt out of the top of the machine, which could burn users.

The recall came after Aldi received 25 reports of the coffee makers expelling hot liquid, including three reports of burns.

Aldi has recalled 28,000 of the machines sold between July and September 2023. The machines cost $49.99 and were sold in 38 states as well as DC. They come in four colors—blue, gray, purple and pink—and were manufactured in China.

Full cash refunds are being offered for the faulty coffee makers. To claim this, customers need to take the product back to an Aldi store.

Customers can alternatively claim a $75 electronic Aldi gift card. In order to do this, customers need to register the recalled coffee maker, follow instructions on how to cut the cord and destroy the machine and then upload photographic evidence that shows the coffee maker—including the model number and registration number—and its cut cord.

Those with questions about the recall can contact Aldi customer service.

Newsweek has emailed Aldi for more information on the product recalled, the burns reported and the states in which the makers were sold.

This is the third Aldi product recall in two months. In mid-July, the supermarket chain recalled jalapenos, green beans and green peppers manufactured by Wiers Farm, Ohio, over fears of listeria contamination. These products were then given the highest risk classification by the Food and Drug Administration.

On July 5 of this year Aldi recalled 21 million Miniverse Make It Mini Sets that were found to contain resin that could cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation when inhaled or touched. MGA, which makes the products, issued the recall after receiving 26 reports of irritation, including one report that the product triggered a customer’s asthma.

When contacted for comment, the CPSC referred Newsweek back to the press release.

The recommended treatment for hot water burns involves running cool water over the affected area for a period of at least 20 minutes, before covering the burn with a clean dry cloth.
