Eugene and Dan Levy set as hosts of 2024 Emmys

Eugene and Dan Levy, the Emmy-winning stars and co-creators of “Schitt’s Creek,” are set to host the 76th Emmy Awards at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles next month, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced Friday.

The two comedy powerhouses — who made Emmy history in 2020 as the first father and son duo to win two major awards in the same year — are about to set yet another historical precedent for television’s biggest night: On Sept. 15, the Levys will become the first-ever father-son hosts of the celebrity-studded evening.

“For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough,” Eugene, 77, and Dan, 41, said in a joint statement.

“Schitt’s Creek,” a fan-favorite sitcom about the misadventures of the formerly mega-wealthy Rose family, stunned the socially-distanced audience of the early-pandemic days by breaking multiple award season records, including taking home nine Emmys for its sixth season — the most-ever wins for a comedy in its final season.

The most-awarded television comedy series in a single year also became the first television show — drama or comedy — to seep all four acting awards, an honor the Levys shared with Catherine O’Hara, who played the unforgettable matriarch Moira Rose, and Annie Murphy, who became a social media sensation with the cult megahit “A Little Bit Alexis.”

Eugene Levy also took home the award for Outstanding Comedy Actor, while Dan Levy won Emmys for a comedy actor in a supporting role, as well as for his writing and directing on the show. Both father and son won an award for Outstanding Comedy Series as executive producers of the show.

“We are thrilled to welcome two generations of comedy genius to the Emmys stage as hosts,” Chris Abrego, chair of the Television Academy, said in a statement, crediting the two multi-hyphenate performers for “creating unforgettable laugh-out-loud moments on screen.”

He added, “together, they are super-charged. I cannot wait for Emmy fans to see what they have in store for all of us.”

The 76th Emmy Awards will air live on ABC on Sunday, Sept. 15 from 8 to 11 p.m. ET and stream the next day on Hulu.
