R&B star Usher is prioritizing his health ahead of a much-anticipated Past Present Future tour, announcing that he’s postponing several shows due to a neck injury.

The 45-year-old star revealed that he suffered the injury earlier this week during rehearsals, forcing him to cancel the tour’s Wednesday opening night.

“Earlier this week, I suffered an injury to my neck while rehearsing to provide my fans with the greatest USHER show of all time,” he wrote in an Instagram post Thursday. “My hope was that with physical therapy and medical treatment, I would be able to overcome the injury and be ready for opening night. Unfortunately, the injury has not healed yet, and my doctors have instructed me not to perform any shows this week.”

The singer said three postponed shows that were to take place on Aug. 14, 16 and 17 at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena have already been rescheduled for Dec. 9, 10, and 12 at the venue.

Despite the setback, Usher said his recovery is on track and that he plans to kick off the tour in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 20, provided he gets the appropriate rest and treatment.

“I love my fans and thank you for understanding that this injury must be healed so that I can give you the 100% excellence that you expect from an USHER show,” he added.
