The Dallas Cowboys continue to have issues regarding contracts being handed out to the team’s top players. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb has yet to report to training camp as he is attempting to strongarm the organization into paying him a much higher salary.

Quarterback Dak Prescott is also in a similar situation, as he seeks a new deal with the team he has called home for the past eight seasons. The issue is Prescott will become an unrestricted free agent in 2025, and he could choose to sign a new deal if he deems the situation regarding his new contract as less than desirable.

Prescott has been questioned about his contract through training camp, with his more recent comments stating, “the money is out there.” The message was simplistic in nature, but it got the point across that owner Jerry Jones needed to pay him.

Now, Prescott has once again commented on his contract, doubling down on his desire to remain with the Cowboys.

“Good conversations are going on, I will say that,” Prescott told reporters after practice. “A lot of good things are going on there. A lot of confidence. I have confidence in my guys and these guys getting something done.”

The good news is Prescott has been transparent about the talks he has had with the Cowboys front office, and he did indicate that “good” conversations are being had. The other piece of good news regarding this situation is Prescott still remains at practice while they figure out a new deal.

“I’m happy where I am right now and that’s really where my focus is,” Prescott said. “I enjoy being a Cowboy, one thousand percent. I enjoy living in Dallas. I enjoy everything about it. But this is a business. Conversations are going well. But I’m thankful to be where I am right now.”

Prescott has long stated he wants to remain in the building, but it will be up to Jones and the front office to offer the signal caller a hearty contract that will keep him in-house. As stated, Prescott will become an unrestricted free agent in 2025, and he could choose to shoot down any offer and go get a deal somewhere else.

Jones has also been stubborn about offering his players new contracts, making it seem as though he is in no rush to get anything done. While the Lamb issue is far more complicated, ignoring a new deal with Prescott could lead to his leaving the team after 2025.
