AUSTIN (KXAN) — The City of Austin declares August 24 as Mental Health Awareness day. This in honor of the late Meadow Goodman, a 15-year-old local queer musician who lost her battle with mental health illness a year ago.

Meadow was a student at Anderson High School, loved deeply by her musical peers, friends, and family.

Local Austinite, co-owner of Flora Coffee and father of Meadow, Greg Goodman is working closely with the city to create “Meadow Fest.” A music festival to honor Meadow and share her love of music with the community while spreading awareness and advocating for mental health.

Meadow Fest will take place on Saturday, August 24 at the Far Out Lounge. All ticket sales will go towards the local non-profit organization Out Youth Austin and the SIMS Foundation.

On Saturday, Councilwoman Vanessa Fuentes will take the stage first and officially recognize Meadow Goodman Mental Health Day on behalf of the City of Austin.

“By combining art, music, and mental health advocacy, Meadow Fest will cultivate a fun and unique experience true to the spirit of Austin. I’m thrilled to join the community in support of our local artists and mental health organizations,” Fuentes said.

The event presented by KUTX will include two stages, and host some of Austin’s best talent. You can expect to hear tunes from Grupo Fantasma, Superfonics, Como Las Movie with Sabrina Ellis, Nemegata, The Point, Somebody Someone Aubrey Hays and the School of Rock.

The Meadow Fest team is still looking for sponsors, there are various levels of sponsorships still available. Top sponsors will recieve aitographed merchandise from two headlining acts and VIP privlages at the festival. If you are interested in becoming a sponsor visit the festivals GoFundMe page.
