Animal control officials warned that the bird is “nervous around people.”
Harwich Animal Control
A peacock has been reported missing on Cape Cod, Harwich animal control officials said Tuesday.
The peacock is from the North Westgate Road area, according to a Facebook post from animal control officials, and was last seen on North Westgate and Cahoon Lane.
The peacock was chased off his property on Sunday, officials said.
The animal control officers warned that the peacock is “nervous around people.”
“PLEASE DO NOT CHASE HIM or ATTEMPT TO CATCH HIM!!” the post said, asking that people call 508-430-7541 to report any sightings.
Unusual bird sightings seem to be becoming more common on the Massachusetts peninsula, with Cape goers reporting multiple flamingo sightings — of a wild bird, not a pet — this summer.
The missing peacock is not to be confused with the Brewster free roaming peacock on Cahoon Road/Long Pond and Route 137, according to the post.
