Worker killed by fall in Theater District remembered as ‘Superman’

Loved ones of the construction worker killed in downtown Boston on Friday are remembering him as his children’s “Superman,” a man who loved his family and was proud of his work.

Authorities identified the man as 43-year-old Barry Medeiros of Taunton.

Mederios was working next to the Emerson Cutler Majestic Theater on Friday when he fell from scaffolding and died.

“Emerson College extends our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of this person and our heartfelt support to anyone who may have witnessed this tragedy,” Emerson College President Jay Bernhardt said in a statement.

Medeiros was born and raised in Taunton and enjoyed the great outdoors and philosophy, his obituary said.

“Above all, Barry was most happy when he was in the presence of and making memories with his devoted family,” his obituary said.

The union journeyman with Laborer Local 721 worked at Fenway Park, Boston University, and other historical sites, according to his obituary.

“Barry was known to love the sites where he got to work,” it reads.

Mederios is survived by his mother, his two children, his partner, and other family members. His ex-partner and mother of his children, Melanie Banks, started a GoFundMe to raise money for their children’s college fund.

“Barry’s children are both pursuing higher education as first-generation college students,” the GoFundMe said. “Instead of moving into their respective colleges this week, his two children are planning for his final arrangements and grieving the sudden & tragic loss of their ‘Superman.’”

As of Tuesday night, the GoFundMe has raised around $2,600 of a $20,000 goal.
