CHICAGO — A two-day festival celebrating Mexican Independence Day is bringing food, music and art to downtown Chicago this September.
El Grito Chicago will feature a line-up of national and local performing artists, authentic Mexican food and drinks, as well as an artisan market over two days at Butler Field in Grant Park.
The all-ages event runs from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 and Sunday, September 15 and organizers said it is the first time in over a decade that a celebration of this type will take place in downtown Chicago.
“We are thrilled to work together to plan a festive and organized celebration of Mexican Independence Day in downtown Chicago,” Jaime Di Paulo, President & CEO of the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, said in a press release announcing the event. “Working with our community members and business partners, El Grito Chicago will offer a Grito civic ceremony honoring Mexico’s Independence, live star-studded entertainment, fun, and engaging activities for children, local authentic food and merchandise vendors.”
Organizers said alongside music and food, the event will also feature a kids carnival area, and experiential activities from major brand and sports teams.
On Thursday, organizers unveiled the following line-up of artists and groups set to perform at the event:

Following Sunday’s acts, at around 8 p.m., the Mexican Consulate in Chicago will host the El Grito Civic Ceremony.

One-day and two-day passes as well as VIP passes are on sale now for the festival.
Registration is also open to attend the civic ceremony for free on Sunday.
Children under 10 will also get free admission to the festival if accompanied by a ticket-holding adult. Ticket-holding adults are allowed to bring up to two children.
Children under 14 must be accompanied by a ticket-holding adult at all times.
