A person died after a car flew off the 118 Freeway and into a backyard late Saturday night.

A CHP spokesperson confirmed to KTLA that the crash happened shortly after 11 p.m., and preliminary information indicates that the motorist careened off the roadway in Mission Hills and into a residential cul-de-sac near Burnet Avenue.

One person, believed to be the driver of that vehicle, was transported to a hospital where they later died of their injuries, CHP said.  No information surrounding their identity was released.

Video from the scene shows the mangled silver sedan came to rest right side up on the grass but perpendicular to the highway after smashing through a wooden fence.

Another angle shows crews towing the car from the yard over the berm on the side of the freeway as officers diverted traffic around the crash site.

According to freelance media firm KNN, there were reportedly other occupants in the car that fled the area before authorities arrived, but that information was not confirmed.
