Fort Worth police officer killed while working early morning crash scene

FORT WORTH, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Police Departments across the state are morning the loss of a Fort Worth police officer who died in the line of duty Monday morning.

Sgt. Billy Randolph, badge number 2797, died Monday while working the scene of a car accident.

Randolph was working the scene of a crash on Interstate 35 Southbound near Sycamore School Road when a car drove through the scene and hit him.

The driver of that vehicle is in police custody, officials said.

Randolph was taken to an area hospital for medical treatment where he died from his injuries. The details of this investigation are preliminary, according to the City of Fort Worth.

“Billy was a father, husband, brother, son and friend,” the city stated in a news release. “The Fort Worth Police Department asks everyone to keep the family and friends of Sgt. Randolph in their prayers along with our Fort Worth PD family.”

Randolph served the community of Fort Worth with the Fort Worth Police Department for 29 years, last assigned to South Patrol.

A procession was held for the officer from JPS Hospital to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
