Toddler struck by vehicle in Dorchester, police say

A car hit a toddler who walked out into the street on Monday, the Boston Police Department said.

The toddler is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

Officers responded to the area of 153 Stanwood Street in Dorchester around 10:47 a.m., the department said. Police said the driver remained on the scene.

Dashcam footage obtained by WHDH shows the toddler walking out onto the street in between cars. The front bumper of the car hits the child, and the child falls down.

After several pedestrian-involved crashes in recent years, Boston City Council put forth a proposal to reduce the speed limit across Boston. The speed limit was already reduced from 30 mph to 25 mph, but a new plan may reduce it even further.
