‘Wordle’ #1,151 Clues and Answer for Tuesday, August 13

US

Wordle is a word puzzle invented by software engineer Josh Wardle, who sold his viral game to The New York Times in 2022.

To solve the daily challenge, players must work out a five-letter word within six attempts or fewer. A color-coded tile system helps gamers along the way.

A green tile indicates the correct letter in the correct position, while a yellow tile signifies the letter is in the word but in the wrong place. A gray tile means the letter is not in the word at all.

Wardle opened up to Newsweek about why he chose to use five-letter words for Wordle.

“There is a reason that every word is five letters long and that you are allowed six attempts to guess it,” he said in an interview with Newsweek in January 2022. “That might seem arbitrary but, with the prototype version, I tested different word lengths and experimented with the number of tries that players were allowed.

A new word appears at midnight in players’ respective time zones, but if one game a day is not enough for you, The New York Times now allows subscribers access to more than 1,000 past puzzles from the official Wordle archive on the web and in the NYT Games app.

“We are thrilled to unlock the official Wordle archive for our subscribers,” Jonathan Knight, head of games at The New York Times, said in May. “This expansion is not just about playing past puzzles; it’s about deepening the connection our community has with Wordle and with each other.”

Day after day, the game presents a new challenge. If you’re struggling with guessing today’s word, Newsweek has your back. Carefully scroll down for a series of hints that could help you figure this out on your own, or get to the bottom of the piece for the solution.
