TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A 12-year-old girl was run over by her mother in an accident near a Sarasota middle school on Monday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The girl got out of the car, which was in the drop-off line in front of Booker Middle School, and dropped school supplies on the ground, according to the FHP.

Her mother did not see her crawl under the car to retrieve the items and pulled forward, running over the pre-teen, troopers said.

The girl was airlifted to All Children’s Hospital with critical injuries.

FHP is investigating the crash. No additional information was immediately available.
