A woman drowned in Taunton’s Bunk Pond just north of Interstate 495 on Saturday, a statement from the Bristol County District Attorney’s office said.

The victim, Elfrede Nenen Yovonie, was 23.

Taunton police officers and firefighters reported to the pond just around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, the statement said. After speaking with Yovonie’s friends at the scene, authorities say they began a search for her.

Her body was recovered just before 7 p.m. on Saturday by the North Bristol County and Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Dive Teams. The DA says the drowning is not believed to be suspicious, and Massachusetts State Police detectives are conducting an investigation into the incident.
