Authorities and worried community members are urging SoCal residents to be on the lookout for a man with dementia who disappeared in Glendale.

According to the Glendale Police Department, Maurice Ainsworth was last seen walking westbound in the 600 block of Myrtle Street on July 31 at 6:35 p.m.

A missing person’s flyer distributed on social media and sent to KTLA by multiple viewers dictates that he was last seen on July 30 after walking away from his nursing home facility, Glendale House, which is located in the 600 block of Myrtle.

Ainsworth is a 59-year-old Black man standing 6 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds, police said. The flyer sent to KTLA by viewers lists him as “around” 6 feet, 9 inches tall and “usually 190 pounds but will be thinner.”

“He is reported to have dementia, and may appear confused, disoriented and afraid,” Glendale police added.

The flyer stated the same information but added that Maurice “is gentle and kind.”

Beginning Thursday, KTLA received several emails from concerned community members searching for information regarding Ainsworth’s whereabouts.

In the emails, people described him as a “friend of many” who “never hesitates to be of service whenever and wherever it’s needed.”

According to one viewer, Ainsworth, a native of Oakland, is a beloved member of the Alcoholics Anonymous community. He has been sober — and helped countless others on their journey to sobriety — for decades.

He was recently diagnosed with early onset dementia, and she says that his cognitive and physical decline has been “dramatic and heartbreaking.”

Due to his diagnosis, he was moved to the nursing home in Glendale, where he became “confused and scared” after two days of living there, the viewer added.

“It’s deeply painful to know he has been lost in an unfamiliar city, suffering from dementia,” another viewer said.  “We are doing all we can to locate him and get him home safely.”

Anyone with information on Maurice Ainsworth’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Glendale Police Department.

According to the missing person’s flyer distributed by community members, anyone who sees Maurice can call or text 510-393-3596 or call the Glendale House at 818-484-7464.
