Woman, 19, sexually assaulted on street blocks from Gracie Mansion

US

A 19-year-old woman was knocked to the ground and molested early Saturday in a tony section of the Upper East Side just three blocks from Gracie Mansion, cops said.

Saturday’s attack comes three weeks after a bloody murder-suicide over a custody battle occurred out in the open in the same neighborhood, according to police.

The victim was nearing the corner of York St. and E. 90th St. in Yorkville at about 1:20 a.m. when a 6-foot tall man in a gray shirt with white stripes and dark-colored pants crept up behind her.

The man knocked her to the ground, molested her, and ran off.

Cops responding to a 911 call of an assault in progress found the woman on the street. The woman was taken to Weill-Cornell Medical Center for treatment and observation.

No arrests have been made. Cops were scouring the area Saturday looking for surveillance footage that could help them find the assailant.

The attack was within three blocks of Mayor Adams’ residence at Gracie Mansion. It wasn’t immediately clear if any of the mayor’s NYPD detail responded to the scene or took part in the search for the perpetrator.

On July 26, Kathleen Leigh, a 65-year-old retired probation officer from Chicago fatally shot her grandchild’s mother, Marisa Galloway, on E. 88th St. near York Ave. before turning her gun on herself.

Cops responding to the 8:50 a.m. shooting found a note from Leigh, detailing the older woman’s battle with cancer and suspicions that Galloway was abusing her granddaughter — claims child service workers previously determined were unfounded.

As of Aug. 4, 43 crimes have been reported on the streets surrounding Carl Schurz Park and Gracie Mansion. Except for the murder-homicide, none of the crimes were considered violent. This time last year, 44 non-violent crimes had been reported, according to NYPD statistics.

Crime in the 19th Precinct, which covers one of the most densely populated sections of the city from E. 59th St. to E. 96th St. from the East River to Central Park, is down 10% with drops in homicides, robberies and assaults, police said.

Reported rape numbers remained the same at seven, cops said.
