Woman Calling Police on Boomer Neighbor ‘Trying to Help’ Applauded

US

A woman has shared how she was forced to call the cops on the neighbor she describes as an “old grumpy creepy boomer.”

Margaret, a resident of Louisiana, took to Reddit as u/AlwaysAngryFox to share her harrowing experience with her neighbor. In a post on r/BoomersBeingFools she gained more than 7,600 upvotes and hundreds of comments.

She said that she has always had problems with the man; from the moment he moved in, he made her feel uncomfortable.

“He keeps junk outside his door, doesn’t control his guests, throws food and trash into the common areas and once even tried swinging at my dog with his cane,” Margaret, who didn’t give a surname, said in the post.

Despite numerous complaints to the building management, nothing was done to address his behavior. Matters escalated when he started taking her packages. “I would come home to no package and have to wait for him to appear to get my stuff. Constantly, I told him to leave my packages alone. He always says, ‘I’m trying to help you out,'” Margaret told Newsweek.

The back-and-forth continued for over a year, and Margaret even installed a camera to try to deter him. The situation recently came to a head.

However, last week, while expecting a book delivery, the neighbor once again attempted to take her package. She confronted him via the intercom, but he returned minutes later and took it anyway.

“I had enough. I got off work early, came home, and called the police,” Margaret said. The officer who responded reviewed the footage and issued a warning to the neighbor, saying that further incidents could lead to charges and arrest.

Reflecting on her decision, Margaret said: “I am tired of dealing with him. The problem has been going on for about a year, and I’m just done. Everyone reaches the end of their rope eventually.”

In hundreds of replies on Reddit, people backed Margaret for her decision to call the cops, blasting the man for his actions.

“Absolutely press charges on the old fool,” commented user PawnWithoutPurpose, while Thrownawayacademic wrote: “It sounds like he’s trying to force an interaction with you, or it’s some kind of weird power play. You’re doing the right thing. He can stop.”

Some commenters posted that perhaps the man was lonely or even had a condition that meant he was confused and didn’t know what he was doing—but Margaret wasn’t convinced.

“I know some people are like maybe he has dementia or something like that, but no, he doesn’t. He does it to be an a**,” she said. “Even if he does have dementia, that’s not my problem. He’s not my family, not my friend.”

This isn’t the first time a “boomer neighbor” has been slammed online. Earlier this year, another Reddit user was cheered for the petty revenge they got on their neighbor.
