AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said a woman was charged in connection with the death of a man who was formerly missing.

According to police, 31-year-old Kamery Wooldridge was charged with tampering with human remains.

The charge was in connection with the case of Cristian Rangel, who was missing since April 8 and his body later found April 19 near an Austin greenbelt.

According to APD, Wooldridge was involved in the death of Rangel and the disposal of his body.

KXAN reached out to Wooldridge’s attorney Benjamin Gergen who declined to comment on the case.

Travis County jail records show Wooldridge was arrested and charged on June 4.

APD said this case was being investigated as Austin’s 39th homicide of 2024.

Police previously said the case was a death investigation. APD said it was now classified as a homicide after a thorough examination of Rangel’s remains.

Police said on July 25, detectives learned his injuries were consistent with him being assaulted at the time of his death.

Anyone with information was asked to contact APD at 512-974-TIPS. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program by visiting austincrimestoppers.org or by calling 512-472-8477.

A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for any information that leads to an arrest.
