US

Princess Charlotte’s resemblance to her late grandmother, Princess Diana, has been highlighted by fans in a new viral compilation of archive footage on social media site, TikTok.

Charlotte is the only daughter of Prince William and Princess Kate. She celebrated her ninth birthday this year and is named “Charlotte Elizabeth Diana,” with her middle names paying tribute to her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and grandmother, Diana.

Charlotte shares this link with her first cousin, Princess Lilibet, who also has Diana as her middle name.

As Charlotte has grown up in the public eye, fans have noted the family resemblances she shares with her royal ancestors and relations. From baring physical similarities to Prince William, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Lady Sarah Chatto, to perceived personality traits linked to Diana and Elizabeth II.

Uploaded to TikTok by user thee.rooyal.family on August 6, a comparison of clips showing Charlotte and Diana have been viewed over 110,000 times on the platform, so far.

Captioned “POV: Charlotte has the name Diana for a reason,” the post includes footage of Charlotte correcting younger brother, Prince Louis, behavior during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022. The princess was seen in news footage swatting her younger brother’s hand down as they watched the jubilee pageant outside Buckingham Palace.

In the TikTok post, this has been compared to footage of Diana offering a similar correction to a young Prince Harry in 1995.

The post also highlights the similar ways in which grandmother and granddaughter have viewed photographers when at official appearances. It has gained in excess of 16,000 likes and over 100 comments, many of which have praised the young princess.

“Like grandma like granddaughter 🥰,” wrote one TikTok user.

“She looks so young yet so mature,” posted another, with a further comment reading: “Okay but no one is going to say how it’s crazy they exactly did the same move to correct the behavior???”

Over the past two years, Charlotte has taken on an increased position within the monarchy, becoming third in line to the British throne upon the accession of her grandfather, King Charles III.

Charlotte and her brothers were present at the king’s coronation at Westminster Abbey in May 2023, and so far this year she has made two high-profile appearances, the first at the Trooping the Colour celebrations in London and the second at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships men’s final with Princess Kate.
