Police investigating a car accident on a Philadelphia roadway Wednesday afternoon found a man behind the wheel with a gunshot wound to the chest that proved to be fatal.
Rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said. They did not identify him but said he was Hispanic and in his late 30s.
Cops first responded to a report of a shooting just before 1 p.m. Wednesday to find a silver Honda CR-V that had hit the median and another vehicle while traveling north along West Roosevelt Boulevard in North Philadelphia.
The driver was taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he died at 1:19 p.m. It’s currently unknown how or when he was shot.
“No [shooting] scene was located, no weapons were recovered, and no arrests have been made at this time,” police told the Daily News in an emailed statement, urging anyone with information to contact detectives.
The department is also offering the standard $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in a homicide.
Police shut down traffic lanes on either side of the median and cordoned off the Honda with yellow tape. They did not release information about the other vehicle or its driver.
