Rapper and St. Louis native Nelly was arrested early Wednesday morning near his hometown on charges of drug possession and an active warrant for lack of insurance.

The 49-year-old, born Cornell Haynes II, was taken into custody around 4:45 a.m. by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Gaming Division, at the Hollywood Casino in the St. Louis suburb of Maryland Heights, reported KSDK News.

Nelly was initially apprehended due to an active 2018 warrant issued by Maryland Heights Police regarding a previous traffic stop during which he was found to have no insurance.

While police were conducting a search on Wednesday, the “Hot In Herre” rapper was also found to be in possession of four ecstasy pills, according to online records.

Nelly was booked at the Maryland Heights Police Department for felony drug possession and on the warrant for not having insurance, TMZ reported. He was subsequently released.

Nelly’s representatives have not replied to a request for comment.

This latest run-in with police is not Nelly’s first encounter with the law. In 2018, he agreed to settle a lawsuit filed by a woman who alleged that he raped her on his tour bus, and later defamed her by claiming she made up the accusation.

The exact details of the settlement were not disclosed, but Nelly’s accuser said she “100%” stood by her accusations following the deal.
